This beautiful and talented Latina actress was born to Cuban-American parents , in Miami , Florida on March 5th , 1974 . Eva Mendes is the youngest of four children , and has 2 big sisters and a big brother . After her parents divorced , Mendes moved to Los Angeles with her mother . Growing up , Mendes had no plans to become an actress , and in fact Eva confessed the she wanted to be a nun since childhood , but gave up her dream after realizing that nuns didn ’ t get paid . It was not until Eva met Zedrick Threatt , who helped her to pursue an acting career that she began to be interested in acting . Before then , Eva actually sold hot dogs at ‘ Hot Dog on a Stick ’ at the Glendale Galleria Mall in California .
Eva was studying marketing at California State University Northridge , in the late ‘ 90s when an agent stumbled across her photo while viewing Mendes ’ s neighbor ’ s portfolio . Eva started acting , mostly as an extra in movies , as a means of earning extra spending money , but Eva ’ s talent was soon noticed by an agent who convinced her to take her acting more seriously . Eva began to appear in commercials , music videos , soap operas , and in supporting film roles .
Her big break ? Mendes ’ s performance in “ Training Day ” led to many roles such as her role in “ Hitch ,” Once Upon a Time in Mexico , and Stuck on You .
Eva Mendes captured the attention of movie-goers in a small , but pivotal role in the critically acclaimed film , “ Training Day ,” and since then , Eva has proved she shines in both the comedic and dramatic roles . In a very short time , she has had the incredible opportunity of working with such esteemed directors as Carl Franklin , Roberto Rodriguez , as well as others .
Mendes also starred in Columbia Picture ’ s supernatural action-adventure , “ Ghost Rider ” opposite Nicolas Cage . And most recently starred opposite Nicolas Cage once again in “ Bad Lieutenant : Port of Call New Orleans ”.
