Latina Leadership :
How Heritage Shapes Our Values in Career and Life

Aunque yo nacíe en los Estados Unidos , estoy muy orgullosa de me patrimonio Mexicano . My father was born in Durango , Mexico . Like me , my mom was born in Los Angeles , California . I was lucky my Mexican grandparents were actively involved in my early years . Although my parents raised us with English as our first language to minimize the likelihood of discrimination , my grandparents taught me some Spanish and encouraged me to watch novelas . We honored many Mexican traditions while assimilating into the U . S . culture . My family instilled values that would guide me as a leader in my military and corporate careers .
Service and Love : My abuelita who spoke very little English taught me about the importance of serving others . She used to wash our kitchen floors by hand and would work from day to night to keep our home clean and happy . As her namesake , I admired her spirit , her humility , and her tremendous love for her family . I took her spirit of service and tough love with me when I led soldiers in the Army . For me patriotism is about service to one ’ s country , one ’ s community , and one ’ s fellow man . It ’ s about subordinating selfinterest and personal agendas to what ’ s best for all . Love means compassion and respect for others who may differ from us , a willingness to see from another ’ s view . When customers know you care and respect their needs and interests , they will buy your services . When co-workers know you value and support them , they ’ ll follow your lead .
Balance : I developed “ out of balance ” habits early in life . When my grandfather was dying of cancer in our home , I would see him each morning before I went to school . He would weakly hold up his index finger in the # 1 sign encouraging me to be the best in school and life . As a high achiever , I ’ ve learned that it ’ s easy to drive yourself into the ground trying to climb the ladder and achieve other people ’ s definitions of success . Why not determine what success means for you and develop a plan to get there ? It ’ s tough to have a balanced perspective when you ’ re tired , irritable , and not thinking clearly . When I experienced burnout six years ago , I discovered the importance of ensuring balance emotionally , spiritually , physically , and mentally . Good leaders manage themselves effectively and ensure their organizations are healthy .
Integrity and Courage : Whether you ’ re an executive , manager , or frontline contributor , your character is ultimately what defines you . Can your customers , coworkers , and family members rely on you to be truthful and act consistently with your beliefs and values ? Do you have a personal code of ethics and are you willing to stand by it when times get tough ? Are you competing for the “ quick buck ” or committed to growing your company over the long-term ? The courage to let people know what you will stand for and won ’ t stand for can make or break your career and your business . Consider leadership decisions at Enron , WorldCom , Arthur Andersen , and Tyco . Trust and integrity impact the bottom and top lines in business . The toughest decisions I ’ ve made required me to stand up for what I believe in . Once you lose your credibility , you ’ ve lost your ability to influence others . We called it “ choosing the harder right over the easier wrong ” at West Point .
Learning : I first discovered the value of learning when I was bused to the valley from an inner city school in Los Angeles . Until then , my teachers didn ’ t really take an interest in me . When I was exposed to new students , new teachers , and different perspectives , a new world opened up . People who saw my potential helped me discover a passion for learning . A willingness to admit mistakes and acknowledge imperfection has served me well . Be openminded not arrogant . I ’ ve made good and bad decisions in career and life , but I ’ ve always asked myself what can I learn from this situation in order to become better from it ?

Like money in the bank ? This opportunity is better than and interest rates I ’ ve ever received ! Many years ago I had the pleasure of meeting the driving force behind American Cash Machines . Mr . Gilbert " Bradley " Swarts , whose mother immigrated from Ecuador in the early 1960 ’ s , has dedicated his life to creating wealth for his clients . His company , ACM specializes in developing investing opportunities for serious minded investors . The newest product surpasses all the others in my opinion ! My mother – Carmen Santiago , and my aunt Bernadina Santiago have both been clients since I first introduced them to Mr . Swarts more than 3 years ago ! Today they are both enjoying 30 % Plus RTA . I think this is a big deal , and wanted share this with you .
The new product is called a “ SMART TERMINAL ” and it provides many needed services to the Latino community all over the United States . Not only does the Smart Terminal act as a cashless ATM , it also provides everything from check cashing services , bill payment , pre-paid debit cards , money transfers , cell phone minutes , photo development and much , much more ! The owner of this machine in turn receives a percentage of every transaction that this machine generates !
Where are these SMART TERMINAL located ? You may have seen them recently in convenience stores , gas stations and in areas that are mainly “ unbanked ”. The term unbanked referring to people who do not have bank accounts . Yes , believe it or not , there are many people around that do not have bank accounts , and 52 % of those people are minorities .
By providing a valuable and necessary service to our community , Mr . Swarts has developed a business opportunity that is financially beneficial to his investors and and also allows them to a perform a great service to the community !
