José Ariel Contreras

José has an incredible story to share— from his early days in Cuba and competing on the international stage to his journey to the big leagues with the Yankees and his unforgettable World Series run with the White Sox. He’ d love to talk about the evolution of pitching, player development, and what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
Beyond his playing career, José is now dedicated to mentoring young athletes, helping them refine their skills and develop a strong mindset for success. He’ s passionate about giving back to the game and would love to discuss how he’ s shaping the next generation of players.
José Ariel Contreras is a legendary professional baseball pitcher who made his mark in both the Cuban National Series and Major League Baseball( MLB). A former member of the Cuban National Team, José competed in two Olympic Games, multiple Pan American Championships, Central American Championships, Intercontinental Cups, and World Championships. Recognized as the Best Amateur Pitcher in the World in 1999, José defected from Cuba in 2002 and went on to sign with the New York Yankees. His MLB career highlights include winning the 2005 World Series with the Chicago White Sox and earning an All-Star selection in 2006. Today, José is an influential pitching coach for his son’ s high school team, Blessed Trinity High School, sharing his legacy, insights, and training philosophy with the next generation of athletes.
