Karla Campos is a social
media influencer and
entrepreneur mom.
José Resendez here,
still stuffed and filled
with joy after judg-
ing the Miami Cuban
Sandwich
Smack-
down at Calle Ocho
2017 in Little Havana!
As a pop culture social
media influencer and life-
style blogger, I'm often
invited to taste the latest
culinary arts that South
Florida has to offer, es-
pecially from celebrity
chefs. However, in this
case, the celebrity wasn't
the chef, it was the Cu-
ban sandwich itself, 12
of them to be exact. Ev-
ery single sandwich was
unique, some traditional
and some non-tradition-
al, yet all tying back to
that authentic Cuban fla-
vor of this popular bite.
Needless to say, the more
traditional and authentic
it was, the more I liked it.
Alongside the Mayor of
Miami, I sat amongst oth-
er VIP judges, devouring
every sandwich and put-
ting my tastebuds to the
test.

terprises.
I am a social Media Influ-
encer from New York City,
which is where I began my
passion for food and fashion.
I manage the Miami Foodies
and Fashionistas group on
Facebook, due to the groups
success and popularity I was
interviewed by Facebook of-
ficial twice and managed a
TV cameo on CBS.
I was honored to be a VIP
judge at Cuban Sandwich
Festival Calle Ocho and
Tampa. As a Latino Influenc-
er I really enjoyed seeing all
the Latinos coming together
and giving back to the com-
munity by building A 150
foot long sandwich that was
then donated to a homeless
shelter. I think that was a
very symbolic and life chang-
ing thing for me. For many
people a sandwich might just
be a Sandwich but to a per-
son that may be less fortunate
it can mean hope for a better
day. I look forward to next
year!

I think my favorite part
of the Cuban Sandwich
contest at this year’s
Carnival in Miami was
the mystery.
Over 12 Different unique cre-
ations all competing for the
crown. It was an epic 'game
of thrones' style 'lucha' over
lechón, jamón and mustard
piled handhelds. And al-
though there were two dif-
ferent categories of warriors
(traditional vs. non-tradition-
al) this local Miami-boy was
swayed strongly by the winds
of his authentic Santiaguero
roots. Nothing like an orig-
inal Cuban sandwich acom-
pañado by a good influencer
friend Miriam Campos Galin-
do and of course the Mayor
of Miami Tomas Regalado!
I was lucky and blessed to
be part of this experience as
many Cubans have been when
they took the leap of faith to
leave their homeland to come
to America like my grandpar-
ents. But if there's one lesson
I've learned over the years is
that as long as you stick to your
roots, put passion and love
into everything you do, you
will surely come out a winner!
