Tropical Surf & Turf

To celebrate its new , perfectly-paired Steak & Shrimp Combo Mambo , Pollo Tropical teamed up with legendary surf & turf authority Ron Jon ® Surf Shops in creating a charity event that was sure to ride a big wave of tropical flavor and community philanthropy .
The Pollo Tropical Steak & Shrimp Summer Surfing Contest took place August 11 , 12 and 13 in three Florida coastal regions – but not in coastal waters . The contests utilized a patented RoboSurfer ® - which has a 5 ’ 10 ” pro surfboard that is affixed to a programmable , mechanical base that simulates wave speeds of up to nine feet . A cold-air inflatable ocean ensured a safe surfing environment .
The contest took place at Pollo Tropical locations in South Florida , West Palm Beach , and Central Florida . The winners for each region were Andrew Cuevas , Jose Roque and Ethan Ward , respectively .
Winners of the three regional events advanced to the finals , which were held in Sanford , August 13 immediately following the regional contest . Each regional contest awarded more than $ 1,000 in Ron Jon surfing merchandise prize packs .
Ethan Wade , the Grand Prize winner of the series , won a limited edition Ron Jon / Pollo Tropical signature surfboard as well as a four-day , three-night surfing safari in Rincon , Puerto Rico - courtesy of Spirit Airlines and Rincon Beach Resort .
Hispanic Vs White Vs Asian Vs Black Vs Hispanic ?
It ’ s the Battle of the Races ….
One day before the official kick-off of Hispanic Heritage month , ( which runs September 15 thru October 15 , 2006 ) Thursday , September 14th , CBS premiered its 6th season of its pioneering reality series “ Survivor ” which is premiering its 2006 season by capitalizing on what could very well be America ’ s oldest and dirtiest subject in history , that of race and discrimination !
Brilliant concept or a low blow by network television ? With tensions so high in the world in regards to race , especially that of immigrants and with most of those seeming to come from Latin countries , it still takes lots of “ cojones ” to pit race against race on prime time Television and on a reality series that encourages you to be very competitive and “ real .” Remember that these contestants are not actors but regular people just like you and me . As we already know , Survivor audiences will be following their “ favorite ” teams closely and , I am curious , will this type of program insight hatred ? Racism ? Or worse …..!? The first episode of the race-based competition opened with online bookies offering 7-3 odds of the white team winning . To follow this season of Survivor stayed tuned to CBS .
