Martin Schwartz
Committed to helping those in need …
Latin Times : What do you do for a living ? Martin Schwartz : I am an attorney who focuses his practice on immigration law , criminal defense , and personal injury law . I came to Florida to do legal aid work and started legal clinics for migrant farm workers . During more than 20 years as a licensed Florida attorney , I have learned how to handle many different civil litigation and family law issues . I do not view any legal problem as too small for our office to handle . Thus , you may have seen me talking aggressively talking to an employer who neglected to properly pay an employee , defending a tenant who their landlord is trying to kick out , handling an unemployment compensation appeal , assisting an individual who is the victim of a foreclosure action , or making sure a deadbeat former spouse pays child support monies owed to a client .
I also love to help local charities . My law office sponsored the Upper Tampa Bay Rotary Club ’ s Pub Crawl ( to benefit the Children ’ s Cancer Center ) in both 2009 and 2010 . In 2011 , I was a candidate for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society ’ s Man of the Year Campaign where I raised $ 9,000 to benefit the victims of blood cancers . I also participated during 2011 ( for the second time ) in the Muscular
Dystrophy Association ’ s lock-up fundraiser where a warrant was put out for my arrest , and I had to raise bail monies which assisted the Muscular
Dystrophy Association to send deserving children to summer camp .
Latin Times : In your life , who is your inspiration and hero ? Martin Schwartz : Oliver Wendell Holmes , the former US Supreme Court Justice was always my hero and inspiration . His achievements and pursuit of justice inspired me to want to go to law school and makes me want to continue to defend immigrants , those wrongfully accused of crimes , and doing whatever is needed legally to insure that the powerless can seek legal counsel , regardless of their limited financial resources .
