O n December 31 , 1972 , Clemente was taking

a relief mission to Nicaragua after an earthquake / He was traveling in a DC-7 plane with food and supplies , the plane never made it past the San Juan border and immediately crashed into 30 feet of water in the Caribbean Sea . Roberto Clemente ’ s body was never recovered . This was a tragic loss not only for Latinos but for everyone .
