How many Hispanics in Florida ?

The number of Hispanics counted in the 2010 Census was nearly 1 million more than expected , based on the most recent Census Bureau population estimates , according to an updated analysis by the Pew Hispanic Center , a project of the Pew Research Center . The report includes comparisons of census counts and estimates for all states as well as the District of Columbia , as well as rankings of states with the largest discrepancies between count and estimate .

The 2010 Census count of Hispanics was 50,478,000 , compared with 49,522,000 Hispanics in the bureau ’ s own estimates .

Hispanic Media in the U . S ., Faring Better than the Mainstream Media

Spanish-language media remains important to the nation ’ s growing and changing Hispanic population . And in the last year , this media sector tended to fare better overall than the mainstream Englishlanguage media , according to a new study by the Pew Research Center ’ s Project for Excellence in Journalism .

Director of the Smithsonian Institution ’ s National Museum of Natural History Chosen as MOSI ’ s 2011 National Hispanic Scientist of the Year

Tampa ’ s Museum of Science & Industry , along with presenting sponsor Bright House Networks , has chosen their 2011 honoree , Cristián Samper , Director of the Smithsonian Institution ’ s National Museum of Natural History . Samper is responsible for the largest natural history collection in the world and a museum that welcomes more than 6 million visitors each year . In an effort to combat this type of disparity in the Hispanic community , proceeds from the event help provide more than 1,300 students from underserved communities and lowincome schools an exciting day of mentoring with Dr . Samper and access to over 450 MOSI hands-on exhibits during Meet the Hispanic Scientist Day , which takes place on Friday , Oct 21 st . The mission of MOSI ’ s National Hispanic Scientist of the Year Award is to recognize outstanding Hispanic scientists who promote a greater public understanding of science and motivate Hispanic youths ’ interest in science .

Interactive Maps , Data and Profiles on the Latino Population in U . S . Counties , States

The Pew Hispanic Center , a project of the Pew Research Center , has updated its interactive maps and database on the Latino population in the nation ’ s more than 3,100 counties . The maps show the Latino population and share in U . S . counties for 1980 , 1990 , 2000 and 2009 and how its size and distribution across counties has changed since 1980 . Accompanying the county interactive maps and database are updated demographic and economic profiles of the Hispanic and non- Hispanic populations in the 50 U . S . states and the District of Columbia .
