A Healed Heart
Around this time of year nearly 37 years ago , I experienced the first significant miracle in my life . God healed a heart defect that nearly prevented me from taking my first short-term mission trip to Mexico . Months earlier , my application to participate in a summer program had been rejected because , due to Mexico City ’ s altitude of more than 7,000 feet , a mission there would not be possible with my heart condition . My 20-year-old self felt dejected . But God . My university friends determined we should fast and pray for God to heal me . He did . I still wonder whether or not I would be involved in missions today had he not chosen to miraculously mend my heart .
That summer changed my life ! I loved Mexico , the people , the food , and even the language that I struggled to learn . But mostly , I loved sharing the Good News and seeing lives transformed . I eventually went back to serve for several more years in Mexico and Spain .
This issue of OMS Outreach is filled with stories of God using ordinary people in extraordinary ways throughout the Latin America / Caribbean region as they faithfully obey his call . Enjoy !
