friendly. Do it for your learners, and maybe the podcast will change your life as
much as it did mine.
Getting out of any old habit takes a little discipline at first, just like when you were
two and had to learn not to wet your pants, but once you get used to the new way, it
is hard to go back to the old one. Once you see the overall increase in energy, the
better mood, and the smiles, you’ll wonder why you ever did it any differently. That is
the way it was for me. Whereas once I thought my primary role was transmitting
information and keeping the class under control, so that they would sit quietly and
listen, I now see myself as a learning gardener, giving them some sunlight, nurturing
their growth, and protecting them from toxic education. To borrow an idea from
Malcolm Knowles, whereas once I focused on controlling them, both mentally and
physically, I now focus on releasing them.
