In short, let us train ourselves to think about the brain as a whole, that everything it
does is in networks, not bounded areas, and to not take the terminology we have
made as being the territory. We need those maps, but they carry the same risks any
simplification does, such as stereotyping people. They lead us into asking the wrong
questions.
Curtis Kelly (EDD), the first coordinator of the JALT Mind, Brain, and Education SIG, is a professor
of English at Kansai University in Japan. He has written about 30 books, 100 articles, and given
