Kurgan. The Fragments of Memories.
Kurgan is one Russian province, it is my
home-town. I never liked it and wanted to
move since my childhood. I understood
that I always felt a bit confusing when
people asked me about the place of birth.
Being from small province is not fancy in
Russia. This project helped me to accept
my home-town, to see its beauty. I think
that it is important for each man to accept
his home-town as the part of his life with-
out any judgment.

The project shows my memories and my
perception of some important places. One
of them is my family’s dacha. Dacha is
a mixture of the order and disorder. On one
hand, old dachas had to correspond the
rules, that determined the sizes and forms
of the buildings. On the other hand,
dacha is a storage of different scraps. My
assemblages are made from such scraps.
The geometrical objects symbolise an
order, that is destroyed a bit with small
things.
The installation with the sculptured pota-
toes describes the common plot of life
from the 1990s, not easy time in Russia in
many aspects. People planted potatoes,
kept it in the canvas bags in the cellars
and ate it all the year round. It was a very
common dish that time.
