What is the Sendero Pacifico?

The Sendero Pacifico is a hiking route started in 2004 with the vision of creating a network of trails between the cloud forest of Monteverde and the mangroves of the Gulf of Nicoya on the Pacific Ocean. The entrance of the Sendero begins in Monteverde and stacked loops are established in surrounding mountains.

What is the trail's purpose?

In addition to offering free, recreational hiking for locals and visitors, the trail's purpose is to connect rural communities and provide economic opportunities for residents. Already, there exists a trail meandering down to the nearby towns of San Antonio and Guacimal and many other towns have shown interest in being connected. The Sendero Pacifico will allow people in these rural areas to serve as nature guides and provide lodging, food,

activities, and information for tourists.

Who takes care of the trail?

Just as the trail was built by community members and volunteer groups, communities are responsible for taking care of their section of the Sendero. Everyone is a steward and everyone can enjoy the stunning beauty of the trail.
