POWDER COATINGS:

COMBINING CREATIVITY AND DURABILITY IN SIGNAGE AND LANDSCAPE DESIGN
Outdoor signage is an important part of landscape design, serving both a practical purpose and contributing to the visual character of a space. Whether creating wayfinding signs for a public park, feature signage for hotel grounds or branding for a commercial development, materials and finishes need to combine durability with eye-catching design.
As an architectural powder coater, Powdertech Corby has developed a wide range of distinctive finishes particularly suited to signage and other metal landscape features. And these can be customised – achieving one-off tones or shades to meet a client’ s requirement.
Versatility of finishes The environment and purpose of a space will influence its visual character. In parks, gardens and rural settings, for example, signage is often designed to sit comfortably within natural surroundings.
However, using natural materials can have drawbacks: timber requires regular treatment, stone is heavy and terracotta can be brittle. Powder coating can recreate the character of these materials while retaining the strength and practicality of aluminium or steel.
Powdertech Wood Finish, Stone Finish and Terracotta finishes have been developed and refined over many years and provides a faithful reproduction of the‘ real thing’.
Rust and patinated metal effects offer further possibilities. Our Rust finishes provide the appearance of weathered steel without an actively oxidising surface or rust run-off. Evolution™ / Aged Metal and PowderLUX ® recreate verdigris, aged bronze, brass, ceramic glazes and other naturally weathered effects.
Not every landscape scheme calls for subtlety. Satellite and Anomatch offer contemporary metallic effects, while Powdertech’ s Freeform process allows imagery, patterns and bespoke graphics to be reproduced within a powder coated finish.
Durability and sustainability Outdoor signage must withstand sunlight, rain, frost, pollution and physical contact. Powdertech’ s high-performance architectural powder coatings provide corrosion protection, scratch and impact resistance, UV resistance and longterm colour and gloss retention, with routine washing with water being sufficient for maintenance.
Powder coating also offers environmental advantages. The powers contain no VOC solvents or heavy metals. Metal components can be stripped and recoated rather than discarded, while the underlying metal remains recyclable.
Coordinated landscape design The same colours and finishes can be used across signage, benches, planters, railings, screens and other landscape features, creating a coordinated scheme – or contrasting finishes can make wayfinding stand out.
Powder coated aluminium and steel therefore offer designers considerable creative freedom without sacrificing the durability required outdoors.
