INNOVATION FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE IN WEED MANAGEMENT

The UN Sustainable Development Goals shows why eWeeding is the future for weed control on pavements. Making public spaces more sustainable requires more than simply purchasing electric equipment. For city councils, green contractors and other clients, the key question is ultimately: how can we achieve the required quality with as little impact as possible on the climate, resources, water, biodiversity and people?
eWeeding demonstrates that effectiveness and sustainability can go hand in hand.
The technology is distinguished by a new mode of action compared to traditional chemical methods, brushing or hot water. Electricity is conducted through the plant and damages it from the inside. This affects not only the above-ground part: the electricity also reaches the roots. As a result, eWeeding does not merely remove visible weeds, but also addresses the basis for regrowth.
This root action is particularly important for sustainable management. When weeds do not return or less quickly, fewer management treatments are required, less labor is required and at the end the environmental impact to maintain the required weed control standard is reduced.( table 1).
Sustainability starts with how it works It is tempting to present electric weed management simply as an alternative to fossil fuels. The greatest sustainability benefit does not arise solely because a machine is electric, but because the total management effort can be reduced. Mechanical methods such as brushing mainly remove the aboveground part of the weed. Thermal
