Solving the Drainage Problem
Heavy clay soil naturally resists drainage, posing a risk to pitch availability during wet winter months. To counter this, the
grounds team uses MM40 for top-dressing and soil amelioration. Andy emphasizes that high-quality sand is essential to justify the investment and improve surface permeability. This year’ s efforts included:
• 400 tonnes for a newly constructed pitch.
• 300 tonnes integrated into existing surfaces.
• 58 tonnes for autumn top-dressing on the first-team rugby pitch.
