MODULAR GREEN ROOF M-TRAY CELEBRATES A DECADE OF SUCCESS
Green roofing specialist Wallbarn is celebrating 10 years of its groundbreaking, award-winning modular green roof system M-Tray, which it designed to make specifying and installing a green roof easier and cleaner- and with the huge advantage of being able to quickly access the deck below as required.
All elements of a traditional green roof are designed in to M-Tray( drainage, scientifically developed substrate and sedum) and cleverly contained within each one-man-lift 500mm x 500mm tray. The trays simply click together on site.
This approach opened the door to installing green roofs on otherwise inaccessible roofs; M-Trays can be passed through windows, travel through buildings, in public lifts etc. It also allowed Wallbarn ultimate quality control, with production at its Hampshire nursery standardised to ensure each tray arrives on site in tip top condition and grown to maturity, delivering an
instant green roof of either sedum or wildflowers.
More recently M-Tray has gained fire certification, passing physical fire tests to achieve BRoof( T4). The new Green Roof Organisation Modular Green Roof Best Practice Guide, a document for which Wallbarn Managing Director Julian Thurbin chaired the Technical Working Group to create, gives more information about fire safety compliance.
Around 400m2 of M-Trays can be laid in a day, and the ease with which this is possible makes installation possible for less skilled operatives.
The system is suitable for the smallest of spaces to the largest of roofs; hundreds of thousands of square metres of M-Tray are supporting pollinators, invertebrates and birds, and improving ambient air quality around buildings as diverse as schools, hotels, factories, healthcare facilities, bus stops, homes and home offices.
