BOUND SURFACING

CURRENT & CONCRETE:

WHY ELECTRIC WEEDING IS THE NEW ESSENTIAL FOR HARDSCAPE MAINTENANCE

In the world of high-end landscape design, the handover is rarely the end of the story. Whether a project features expansive stone paving, sleek polished concrete, or the seamless finish of resin-bound surfacing, the long-term aesthetic remains at the mercy of nature. For years, the industry has relied on a binary choice for weed control in hardscapes: the back-breaking labour of manual picking or the chemical blanket of herbicides. However, as environmental regulations tighten and client demands for“ pet-safe” and“ ecofriendly” spaces grow, a third way has emerged. The eWeeding roller is bringing high-tech, chemical-free maintenance to the forefront of hardscape management.
Preserving the Integrity of Bound Surfacing Resin-bound and bonded aggregates are prized for their permeability and clean, modern lines. Yet, that very permeability can allow organic matter to settle and germinate. Traditional pressure washing can be abrasive and risks dislodging the aggregate, while chemical runoff can sometimes affect the long-term lustre of the resin or leach into the sub-base.
Electric weeding offers a noninvasive alternative. By passing a systemic electrical current through the weed, the eWeeding roller kills the plant down to the root without disturbing the surrounding aggregate or leaving chemical residues that could compromise the surface’ s porous nature.
The Battle Against Moss and Algae One of the most persistent challenges for stone and concrete installers is the development of moss, particularly in shaded areas or north-facing terraces. Moss doesn’ t just ruin the clean aesthetic of a concrete courtyard or Yorkstone path; it creates a significant slip hazard that poses a liability risk for designers and owners alike. The eWeeding roller provides a
