GARDEN DESIGN
DESIGNING RESILIENT LANDSCAPES: 40 YEARS OF CEDAR NURSERY
that work as hard as the interiors they extend.
Climate change has also reshaped planting choices. Cedar’ s team now
regularly advises on species suited to flooding, drought and rising temperatures. Trees such as olive and persimmon- once rare in UK schemes- are now increasingly specified as part of more resilient, future-focused designs.
As Cedar Nursery in Surrey marks 40 years in the trade, its story mirrors the evolution of landscape and urban design itself. Founded in 1986 by Tim and Kate Sharples, Cedar began as a destination for exceptional plants and trees. Four decades on, that commitment to quality remains, but the scope has expanded to meet the increasingly complex demands of contemporary landscapes.
Today’ s projects call for more than planting schemes alone. Designers and landscapers are looking for solutions that perform as well as they look. Cedar
Nursery has responded by becoming a comprehensive supply partner: from specimen plants and climate-resilient trees to bespoke planters, gravel stabilisation systems and high-end garden furniture.
Standout developments include the bespoke planter showroom, offering designers control over form, scale and colour, and Kitchen in the Garden, which supplies commercial-grade outdoor kitchens for residential and hospitality projects. Both respond to the same shift in client expectations: outdoor spaces
Practical innovation sits alongside horticultural expertise. Cedar’ s exclusive StablePave gravel stabilisation panels offer durable, weed-suppressing solutions for driveways, pathways and car parks- meeting both aesthetic and performance requirements.
Trends will continue to shift, but Cedar Nursery’ s core strength endures: specialist knowledge, thoughtful advice and service built on long-term relationships. After 40 years, that expertise is more relevant than ever.
