STIHL AT 100:
A CENTURY OF POWER, PRECISION, AND PROGRESS
From humble beginnings in Stuttgart, Germany, STIHL has grown to be a global leader in outdoor power equipment, its journey defined by relentless innovation and steadfast values.
100 years ago, Andreas Stihl invented the first portable chainsaw, which transformed the landscaping industry. This breakthrough would shape how landscapers care for outdoor spaces for decades to come. From pruning to felling, to processing and clearing, the chainsaw is now an indispensable tool for professionals in this space. quiet operations and reduced maintenance. All the while, boasting the same level of power offered by petrol machines.
With a vision as clear today as it was back then, STIHL experts continue to drive market-leading engineering excellence, in line with the demands of professional landscapers. Here, we celebrate the tool that changed it all and look to a future built on a foundation of innovation.
Just a year later, STIHL introduced its first electric chainsaw, developed for cutting felled trees, a two-person machine that would transform timber processing.
By 1929, STIHL had patented the first petrol-powered design, with European exports soon to follow.
Less than half a decade later, in 1932, STIHL would set new standards for efficiency and durability with its patented three-lug saw.
Now, as STIHL marks ten decades of innovation, the chainsaw continues to evolve, with many of today’ s machines powered by cuttingedge battery technology. For modern professionals, this means lower emissions and excellent performance benefits, such as
