SUSTAINABILITY BENEATH THE SURFACE:
THE LINDUM WAY
In an industry dedicated to creating and maintaining green spaces, it’ s time we look beneath the surface— literally. For years, plastic netting has been a standard in turf and wildflower production, used to stabilise rolls during growth and handling. Yet these nets, while practical, do not biodegrade. They linger in soil for decades, fragmenting into microplastics and threaten the very environments we aim to enhance.
At Lindum Turf, sustainability isn’ t a buzzword; it’ s a principle that guides everything we do. Our turf is entirely plastic-free, consisting purely of roots and soil, ensuring a natural and environmentally friendly product. For our wildflower products, we use innovative plant-based mats, also 100 % plastic free, that provide the same structural integrity and ease of handling that landscapers rely on but break down harmlessly in the soil once established. The result is healthy grass or wildflowers, strong root systems, and no lingering plastic waste.
Transitioning to plastic-free turf hasn’ t been without challenges. Researching, testing, and implementing new materials requires time and investment. But as the landscaping sector increasingly values ecological responsibility, this innovation is essential. Clients, contractors, and specifiers now expect environmentally conscious solutions at every stage of a project, and plastic-free turf offers both ecological benefits and a competitive edge.
We see this as part of a broader movement toward sustainable landscaping. From plant pots to protective materials, every choice we make has lasting consequences
for soil health and the wider environment. By removing plastic netting, Lindum Turf is demonstrating that it’ s possible to combine performance with sustainability, creating products that meet professional standards while reducing environmental impact.
True sustainability goes beyond the surface. It requires careful thought, innovation, and accountability from every player in the industry. At Lindum Turf, we’ re proud to be taking steps that help landscapers, clients, and communities enjoy beautiful, resilient green spaces without compromising the health of the soil beneath them.
