LIGHTING

AVENUE: THE FLEXIBLE, SUSTAINABLE URBAN LIGHTING SOLUTION THAT DELIVERS ON EVERY FRONT

applications. All variants are engineered to minimise upward light output, reducing light pollution and protecting dark skies. A new approach to optical bowl design and comfort optic has also been developed for Avenue post-top, providing a soft glow ambience with minimal glare for increased visual comfort.
Drawing on decades of outdoor lighting expertise, Thorn Lighting has launched an exciting urban solution, created in collaboration with Scandinavian studio Lyhne Design. The new Avenue family consists of four product types: post-top, lateral arm, lateral post-top and suspended, providing the flexibility to meet the varied needs of lighting schemes for urban spaces in a consistent and connected design language.
Avenue was developed through close collaboration between Lyhne Design and Thorn’ s in-house technical teams and customer base. The result is a versatile product family that caters to many different urban lighting scenarios, including parks, pathways, pedestrian zones, car parks, residential areas and urban roads.
A key outcome of this new method of development is Thorn’ s
‘ Quad’ modular platform( patent pending). The modular design simplifies maintenance, upgrades, refurbishment, and eventual disassembly and recycling. A single-piece refurbishment kit and simple Zhaga-down retrofit solution provides the flexibility to upgrade the connectivity and IoT features and extend the product lifecycle for generations to come.
Avenue is compatible with Thorn’ s full range of UrbaSens connectivity solutions, from simple pointto-point controls to large scale intelligent control networks beyond light.
The Avenue family is built on Thorn’ s well-established optical platform, offering a range of optical configurations for both Road and Street and Urban Amenity
Morten Lyhne, of Lyhne Design, commented:“ At Lyhne Design, our way of working is shaped by Danish design tradition, emphasising good craftsmanship with a focus on functionality, minimalism and aesthetics. Each design feature makes sense in relation to functionality, construction and production methods, and the design consists of as few parts as possible in high quality, reusable or recyclable materials.
“ The visual design features clean, harmonious lines, transforming a highly technical and functional product into something simultaneously poetic.”
Eliot Horsman, Director of Product & Application Management at Thorn Lighting added:“ Avenue is manufactured in Thorn Lighting’ s highly accredited plant in Spennymoor, UK, bringing together the best of Scandinavian design and British manufacturing. It’ s a lighting solution built not just for today’ s cities, but for the evolving needs of future urban environments.”
