Where once , powder coatings , in their primary role as metal protectors , firmly hid the underlying metal from sight , the desire to celebrate the natural beauty of metal has made many exciting design choices available to architects , designers , landscape professionals and fabricators .

Powdertech Evolution™ / Aged- Metal , launched in 2017 , reflects the beautiful patination and oxidation effects which occur naturally on metals if left exposed – except in this case the metal is not exposed , but protected by the powder coating . These finishes have a strong tactile appeal , presenting the roughened texture of aged metal . Particularly popular in this range are the ‘ Rust ’ finishes , chosen by clients as a preferred alternative to Corten steel , combining a ‘ natural ’ look and the enormous benefit of colour stability without any water run-off staining onto groundworks or water features .
Taking a soft approach Ongoing conversations with designers led us to launch PowderLUX © in spring 2024 . This unique range of patinated finishes are smooth to the touch reflecting patinated coppers , burnished bronze , blackened steel and marbled effects in soft pastel shades .
Meeting sustainability considerations Evolution / Aged Metal and PowderLUX have low environmental impact . They contain no volatile organic compounds , halogens or heavy metals in manufacture , application and use . Powder coating is a factory-controlled application so there is no on-site impact ensuring that up to 95 % of what is sprayed adheres to the metal and the little that is left over can be re-purposed . Clever specification and use of Powdertech coatings can reduce the consumption of copper , lead , zinc , brass and bronze without compromising on visual appeal and in many cases reducing cost and improving re-cyclability through use of highly abundant and recyclable aluminium . The finishes are easy to clean and at ‘ end of life ’, powder coating does not affect the recyclability of metals .
Both Evolution / Aged Metal and PowderLUX © can be applied to aluminium or steel , for exterior or interior use .
