BUILDING SUSTAINABLE GREEN SPACES FOR THE FUTURE

the skills and knowledge required to embark on a career in Garden Design .
In an era marked by rapidly changing environmental conditions and growing concerns over climate change , the need to consider environmental and climate factors in garden design has never been more crucial . Gardens , in both urban and rural locations , play a pivotal role in fostering biodiversity , mitigating environmental degradation , and promoting resilience against climate fluctuations .
Rising temperatures , erratic weather patterns , and extreme events pose significant challenges to garden and landscape designers .
In response to these challenges , designers must seek to prioritise resilience and sustainability through a diverse range of solutions . For example , selecting plant species that are resilient to heat , drought , and flooding ; in response to both increasing temperatures and unpredictable precipitation . Further , implementing irrigation systems that seek to manage water more effectively and utilizing permeable paving materials to mitigate stormwater runoff helps to better manage water use and better maintain soil moisture and stabilise the water table .
