IS YOUR DECK CLEAN AND READY FOR THE SEASON ?
Sourcing for your next decking project ?

Look for the Mark

It ’ s a fact that all outdoor flat surfaces need routine cleaning to keep them free of dirt and debris . Such cleaning also keeps mildew , algae and fine mosses at bay which are the cause of slippery conditions in damp or wet environments – a problem with most porous or semi-porous decking materials .
In terms of timber , a stiff brush and a mild soap solution is usually all you need . WPC decks may need specialised cleaning products – always follow the manufacturer ’ s guidance .
Find third-party verified and fit-for-purpose products and installers
From deck components and design engineers to wood coating solutions and specialised fixings .
Gripsure
Choose a dry day and methodically work the grime loose before rinsing with clean water . Allow the deck to dry prior to any further treatment . If a protective finish has been applied to the timber , then this should be reapplied .
You might consider professional cleaning or using a pressure washer – there are specific deck cleaning attachments available . A timber surface can be damaged if the pressure used is too high . Choose a lower pressure and don ’ t put the lance too close to the deck ’ s surface .
If the deck is heavily stained , use a proprietary cleaning product . There are several DeckMark Approved products available from TDCA members which can clean and refresh the wood ’ s appearance , as well as protective products to help prevent staining . Which products you use will depend on your timber type – always check with the manufacturer .

Tite-Fix : DeckTite
DeckMark schemes require a full business audit and assessment followed by annual surveillance audits by TDCA .
The Timber Decking & Cladding Association is an independent , not-for-profit technical and advisory trade body . Recognised as the authoritative source of expert opinion in the UK .
Don ’ t forget to look for loose or damaged boards and fixings and periodically check under the deck to ensure the substructure is still sound . Get into the habit of sweeping away any debris and mopping up spilled food as and when it occurs .
