Originally a mine , Long Rake Spar predominantly extracted a bright white Calcite otherwise known as Derbyshire Spar . Activity ceased in 1981 when the company started bringing in a variety of decorative aggregates . The company had already begun to diversify , expanding into mineral processing by installing washing , blending and drying equipment to target more specialist market sectors . This growing expertise allowed Long Rake Spar to become the original supplier of an expanding range of dried aggregates which eventually became known as Grantex Surfacing in 1998 .
