BALI www.bali.org.uk medals haul for baLI members at Chelsea Flower Show BALI members at the 2016 RHS Chelsea Flower Show have been awarded a total of 19 medals - six Gold, seven SilverGilt, five Silver and one Bronze – with BALI Registered Designers, Contractors and Training Providers (colleges) all celebrating. T he weather for judging day was perfect and the Show Gardens, Fresh Gardens and Artisan Gardens look magnificent as the show officially opens today. In the Show Gardens category, BALI Registered Designer Andy Sturgeon achieved Gold for the Telegraph Garden, as did Designer and Honorary BALI Member Chris Beardshaw for the Morgan Stanley Garden for Great Ormond Street Hospital, and Landform Consultants for The Chelsea Barracks Garden. There was a clutch of Silver-Gilts – The Outdoor Room for the Cloudy Bay Garden; Landform Consultants for The Hartley Botanic Garden; and Landscape Associates for the Royal Bank of Canada Garden. In the Fresh Gardens category The Outdoor Room won Gold for The Modern Slavery Garden; Silver-Gilts were won by Cube 1944 Ltd for The AkzoNobel Honeysuckle Blue(s) Garden, and by Garden Builders for The World Vision Garden; and BALI Registered Designer Lee Bestall achieved a Silver medal for The Sir Simon Milton Foundation Urban Connections Garden. In the Artisan Gardens section, Frosts Landscapes achieved Gold for The Garden Bed – a partnership with Asda 30 Landscape & Urban Design Issue 20 garden, as did Belderbos Landscapes for the Viking Cruises Mekong Garden, which has also been named Best Artisan Garden. Landform Consultants were awarded Silver-Gilt for the Papworth Trust – Together We Can garden, and Living Landscapes received Silver for the Pro Corda Trust – A Suffolk Retreat garden. BALI’s Training Provider college members also did well, with Sparsholt College receiving Silver in the Discovery category for their exhibit ‘Plant Heritage – The People’s Plants’, and Capel Manor College a Bronze for their exhibit ‘Beans Beans’, which linked in to the UN International Year of the Pulse. BALI Registered Contractor Bowles & Wyer Contracts received Silver-Gilt for The Lifeworks Global Garden. This year for the first time in the show’s history the contractors who build the wonderful gardens will be recognised with the Best Construction Award. This, together with the Best Show Garden announcement, will be made at Chelsea at 1 p.m. today. BALI Affiliate (supplier) members’ products were, of course, out in force on virtually every garden at the show. Their products also grace the BALI information stand on Eastern Avenue with living pictures from Mobilane, artificial grass flooring complete with BALI logo from Evergreens UK, and timber for the bench seating and planters from AHS Ltd. Plants were supplied by Hortus Loci and a metal garden obelisk from Agriframes has been donated for the visitor competition.
