How To Design Spaces That Encourage
Physical Activity And Wellness
T
he Great Outdoor Gym
Company is looking to work
with landscape architects and
parks to design in wellness.
According to the World Health
Organization physical inactivity
is one of the top four leading risk factors
for health. Globally, 1 in 4 people are not
doing the recommended 30 minutes of
exercise a week and there are strong links
between this and rising epidemic levels
of Obesity, Diabetes, Cancer and Heart
disease.
TGO started its venture in 2007 with
a mission to break down the barriers
to exercise by making gyms and free,
accessible and usable at any time for
people of all ages and abilities . Now 9
years later, TGO are even more focused at
making a difference at a time when they
are needed the most.
Physical activity is now seen the wonder
drug but how can a society that has
previously designed out opportunities
to become more physically active now
start to provide mass and affordable
opportunities for hundreds of thousands
of people to get more active? The Great
Outdoor Gym Company (TGO) has the
solution with its equipment that has
proven effective at reaching inactive
groups (26% surveyed on an outdoor gym
in London were previously inactive).
