Co- Ordinated External Furniture For
The University Of Birmingham
The University of Birmingham is
in the midst of one of the most
exciting and transformational
campus redevelopments since its
original completion in 1909. The
current development, costing
close to £500 million over a
five-year period, is creating
outstanding new facilities,
benefitting students, staff,
visitors and the local community.
Part of this transformation is
the landscaping of a rooftop
courtyard located between the
historic Aston Webb Great Hall
and C block, which had been left
neglected for many years.
The client’s objective was to
create an informal landscaped
area with planters that could
accommodate small trees
and seating grouped around
tables, where students and staff
could gather. With this in mind,
elements from our Campus
range were brought together in
several combinations to achieve
a relaxed and social area.
The large planters are produced
in 6061 aluminium with a simple
return edge and plinth style
base. The matching benches are
framed in the same aluminium
with iroko FSC-approved timber
slats. The modular design of the
Campus range gives the client/
architect the flexibility to select
and configure elements for
specific landscape solutions or
simply use as stand-alone items.
Campus communal tables
provide a large surface area to
congregate around, with four
legs providing a stable platform.
As with the benches, Campus
tables can be manufactured to
any size to fit specific needs.
The Campus range has been
designed with the educational
sector in mind, but its great
flexibility and modern style
makes it a ideal choice for many
environments.
