DECKING

4 WAYS TO GET THE MOST FROM YOUR DECKING AREA IN WINTER

We ’ ve compiled some top tips for making sure your deck brings you joy all year round .
1 . Heat it up Adding a fire pit , a chiminea or some patio heaters and some cosy faux fur throws to your outside area can turn it into an appealing place to sit , even when the temperature outside takes a drop .
Fire pits and chimineas are a quick and easy update for those who seek something more rustic and charming to huddle round but remember to keep it safe . Whilst composite materials are a great option due to their specific blending of timber and recycled plastic which develops a good resistance against heat and fire , remember that a wood-burning fire pit can reach temperatures of up to 1,200 degrees Celsius , so you ’ ll want to be sure to avoid any cosmetic damage from scorching or from hot fire pit contents spilling onto the deck . The easiest way to do this is to pop your fire pit or chiminea onto some old paving slabs or other completely non-combustible surface so you can avoid any damage to your deck .
The peak season for buying decking is in the spring , when everyone is getting ready for the long summer evenings spent outdoors . When winter rolls around many decks are left neglected , but this needn ’ t be the case .
With some creative thinking , a garden deck can be every bit as useful and enjoyable in the autumn and winter as it is at warmer times of the year , and in fact , now is also the perfect time to act to protect your decking area during the colder months .
