Lenton
Situated just a mile-and-a-half from
the University of Nottingham in one
direction and the heart of the city centre
in the other, this neighbourhood is
probably the most popular for students,
with a good choice of pubs, bars and
convenience stores on Lenton Boulevard
and nearby Derby Road.
You can pick up a three-bedroom
house here for between £120,000£130,000.
Sherwood
This vibrant area just three miles from
the city centre has a real community
feel. The bustling Mansfield Road area
caters for most needs with a choice of
shops including convenience stores,
grocers, butchers, charity shops, arts
and crafts stores and essentials such as
a post office and a pharmacy.
There is also a choice of
restaurants, takeaways and pubs –
though some of the area’s drinking spots
are admittedly not for the faint-hearted.
Sherwood comprises of a mix in terms
of housing – from standard terraced
red-brick streets to leafy avenues. And
as such it attracts a variety of people
– from young professionals in house
shares to young families who appreciate
the relative safety of this city suburb.
And the latter’s needs are wellcatered for, with a choice of two primary
schools, GP surgeries and the beautiful
Woodthorpe Park all within easy reach.
A three-bedroom house in
Sherwood will set you back roughly
£130,000.

Hucknall
While it’s true that Nottingham boasts
some truly beautiful suburbs for families
in search of a quieter life, they come at a
hefty premium.
But for those who are willing to
look a little further afield it is possible
to find a property with more room for
loved ones to roam.
Hucknall, roughly eight miles
north-west of Nottingham offers three
and four-bedroom houses with decentsized gardens and those conservatory
extensions which are so popular with
stressed-out parents at a more down-toearth price.
The area is served by a choice of
four primary schools and two secondary
comprehensives and when it comes
to green space Hucknall is positively
spoiled, with the grounds of Newstead
Abbey – one-time home of Lord Byron and Bestwood Country Park both within
a 15-minute drive.
It may also be reassuring to
know that moving here doesn’t mean
waving goodbye to city life as transport
to Nottingham is served by rail via the
Robin Hood Line and trams at least
every 15 minutes between 6am-12am.
And a night on the town need not
be a thing of the past with return buses
leaving the city centre up until 3.30am
Monday-Saturday.
Hucknall is a popular area for
those looking to settle down but you
can find a nice three-bedroom semidetached house for around £150,000.
