C I T Y O F C U LT U R E “Hull is seeing a revival which could put it back on the map” I t is fair to say that Hull has not always had the best press as a place to live, with stories about unemployment and all the social deprivation and crime which goes with it, the city was voted worst place to live in the UK in 2003. But with Hull set to receive half- a-billion pounds of investment into its green energy and port industries and host the City of Culture in 2017 it is seeing a revival which could put it back on the map. The development of Alexandria Dock by Siemens’ wind turbine facility will mean more than 1,000 jobs alone and supply chain businesses in the form of enterprise zone warehousing, manufacturing and business and leisure parks in surrounding areas will create many more. So, Landlord Voice takes a look at what the city can offer its new workforce in terms of accommodation. Victoria Dock Just a ten-minute walk from Hull City Centre, right next to Victoria Park and with direct access to the A63 and onto the M62, this area is ideal for young professionals. The quiet, new build-style area surrounds the old Victoria Dock, which was built to accommodate a burgeoning trade during the 19th century. A two-bedroomed, twobathroomed apartment will cost an average of £105,000. Photo: The Deep aquarium, Hull 6 | LandlordVoice | July 2015 July 2015 | LandlordVoice | 7
