CONTEMPORARY ART REVIEW instinctively in direct relation to the energy I am experiencing during my paint sessions . In saying so , I am always working in various segments directly according to the mood I am presently in at the time . It is this timely exuberance that allows me to explore my instinctive nature with the medium and on occasion experience gestural insinuations ( Example : Boogeyman ) that gives my work an alternate definition of self-eccentric style .
Personally I find that when working on a series as such that involves great knowledge and passion for history , antiquity , and destination ; it is most constructive to not necessarily work towards finding the answers for the subject matter of each piece , but to sit back , lay low and allow the answers to come to you . Whether it be ; in a subconscious , entirely conscious , or inert state , I always find that one way or another , the answers will come to you . The notion of interpretation is my base work , thus allowing my mind , body , & soul with creativity ; construct the rest of the structure upon what knowledge I have already gained .
Coming from a very diverse family with roots of Italian , Irish , English , and German ethnicity , I have always been extremely fascinated with that large variety and distinguishments of tradition and convention amongst each and every one of these beautiful backgrounds . I am very fortunate to have such implementations flowing through my veins . In saying so coming from the German side I have always been fascinated with the legend of Krampus and it ’ s decent of Austro-Bavarian Alpine folklore . When I was a young boy I was told by a friend that his grandmother who was born in Germany , implored him not to cause any trouble whatsoever or disrespect his parents and his siblings especially around the Christmas season . Further telling him that if he was to disregard this simple message ; the milk he put out would turn sour and the cookies would crumble and rot , the home would be filled with complete darkness and in the cold , cold night of Christmas Eve an anthropomorphic horned beast will take you from your bed , shove you in a sack and take you to hell for your wrongdoing .
With the image of a figure construed of half demon , half goat , I simply knew I had to arouse the revival of this chilling tale . I have always been fascinated with the counterparts of condition . In this case Krampus in direct contrast of Saint Nicholas who instead of punishing children during the holiday season but rewards them for their good behavior . This also goes for the second piece which we are analyzing . Temptation being my artistic simulation of Eve in the Garden of Eden with the evil serpent in the Book of Genesis ; which not only contrasts Almighty God the Father whom forbid this very action but it also shows one of the numerous alternate perceptions in contrast to the Big Bang Theory and the theory of the beginning of time as we know it .
In Temptation , I attempt to evoke the viewer ’ s senses and sensibility of good and evil . This is not necessarily in pursuit of reinforcing the darkness in the world but more so a question as to whether you believe in the seduction imposed by Satan , and the expulsion of mankind for the eternal sin imposed by the first man and woman ?
