CONTEMPORARY ART REVIEW had summers off to work on his books and research . In the late 1940 ’ s , he bought half of a 100 acre farm in the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts , then a 5 hour drive from New York City , and built a vacation home there . My family spent every summer there for all of my childhood until I went off to University at age 18 . It was there that my love of Landscape first emerged .
