differentiated styles are sprung prematurely on us unpreparedly . Or maybe we acquaint ourselves not thoroughly enough with aspects of the intrinsic values of our tradition which enlightened the precursors of each stage in our history to lay foundations for mature achievements . The puzzling phenomena of the present are too complicate for us to unravel and as the more we cleave ourselves to the present , the more confused we become for the lacking of distances make us short-sighted . If we step back the whole panorama would come into our visions and the direction of innovation could be easier to identify . Retreating to tradition is just temporary out of fashion for we could gain cognitive motives and insights to go beyond the fleeting phantasms mixed in the present to grasp the attainments of our ambitions .
In traditional Chinese , the visual forms of figures are mainly overall linear construction . By virtue of the expressive power of lines , artist conveys the temperament of the figure . As for the depicting of a beautiful lady , the linear construction is as fluent as the floating clouds and flowing water unrolling their gracefulness in nature . My attempt of creating The Nirvana and The imperial concubines is to enrich the pure appreciation of the graceful curved lines with color tunes and certain sense of concrete .
The way you to capture non-sharpness with an universal kind of language quality marks out a considerable part of your production , that are in a certain sense representative of the relationship between emotion and memory . How would you define the relationship between abstraction and representation in your practice ? In particular , how does representation and a tendency towards abstraction find their balance in your work ?
It is a good question . To tell truth , I have not thought about it while I am painting . During the process of painting , I am not sure where my experiments would lead . I only know that I am captivated by finding an overall harmony which is
