CONTEMPORARY ART REVIEW
Thanks a lot for your time and for sharing your thoughts, Deanna. Finally, would you like to tell us something about your future projects? How do you see your work evolving?
I am really excited about my recent projects and ongoing explorations: basing my research and development of thematic subjects and new works on direct, more immersive, physical investigation of natural environments. In the past year, I participated in expeditions on a canal in Brooklyn, New York, and on a river in southern Mexico. Working from my photographs of the canal journey, I made two site-specific drawing installations for a recent exhibition( at Trestle Projects, in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn) that highlighted the effects of corrosion and the persistence of plant life in what is still a very toxic ecosystem, due to the canal’ s legacy of heavy industry. I am currently in the process of planning a new body of work based on the information and images gathered during and inspired by the Mexico journey. The materials— including drawings, photographs, and videos— record aspects of my experience of that waterway; they have led to the formulation of a project that will reflect concepts and images of different types of waves, including those of water and sound.
