To expand on the idea of visual metaphor, I use figuration in my work to imply a nexus of associative images; for example in my Viral Theories installations the pieces can be seen simultaneously as swirling leaves or floating flower petals, then can morph to give an image of swarming insects, yet also can give the impression of microscopic views of viruses invading cells. The emotional response to the string of associative images is akin to the horror
