Arnim is the baker and singlehandedly bakes
from 2am every Saturday morning. He chuckles
and tells me that he in fact is the lucky one, as Elke
cleans the kitchen after him! Try the cherry flan and
the perfectly balanced chocolate and chilli tartlet. We
purchased both, but ordered the sour cherry, chocolate
and cream topped waffle to enjoy then and there.
If you are already on the lookout for Christmas gifts,
there are many non-food items to tempt you. The
recycled light fittings, designer products from Nataniel,
embroidered hats and locally produced vintage inspired
designer dresses from ‘Lara Mars’ will certainly please.
I purchased a beautiful leather bangle made by the
Pendant Warehouse for my better half’s stocking.
After licking the last traces of Arnim’s waffle off our
fingers it was time to move on to the Root 44 market
near Somerset West. Giving Mooiberge a run for its
money, this newbie is gaining a reputation as the place
to visit in the Helderberg over the weekends.
Boasting live music, a food marquee, cut flowers, a
children’s play area and a marquee filled with handmade
items, it certainly has something for everyone they are
even part of the ‘Parkrun’ worldwide initiative.
