A Brief Interview with Louis XVI’s Closest Friend
and Correspondent

L’Ami du Soleil’s expert field reporter had the chance to sit down and talk to King Charles X of
France, Louis XVI's brother. Their conversation was extremely illuminating. Take a look:
Q: What was your first thought when you heard that your brother and sisterinlaw had attempted to
escape to Austria?
A: I immediately thought that Marie, bless her soul, influenced my brother to escape! If she hadn’t,
perhaps they might still be alive today.
Q: Did you have a good relationship with Marie?
A: Yes, I met her when I was 12 and we clicked instantly. I was even accused of seducing her.
Q: Why did you flee to England at the start of the revolution?
A: I left because I thought they would try to kill anyone associated with the king, and I simply wanted to
ensure that the bloodline of France would continue.
Q: What was your overall opinion on the revolution?
A: I thought that it shouldn't have happened. I believe that the government could have been changed in a
smaller, simpler way. Like I say "Time for repair, not demolition." But not a full out war that brought in
our biggest enemy's to try to take over our country. If it wasn't for that Napoleon we would be ruled by
England.
Q: Would you say that the dismissal of Jacques Necker , that you developed, fed fuel to the storming
of the Bastille?
A: No I wouldn't say that at all. I think the revolutionaries were going to storm the Bastille due to other
