Lakeville ’ s population is 74,553 according to the U . S . Census Bureau . This equates to a 7.3 % population increase since 2020 . Lakeville is the largest city in Dakota County and the ninth largest in the state of Minnesota .
There were numerous ribbon cuttings to celebrate new businesses in 2023 , including commercial and retail businesses , restaurants , medical office developments , as well as several industrial park projects .
Lakeville issued 309 single-family permits in 2023 and ranked # 2 in residential permit numbers in the Twin Cities . In addition , the City issued permits for 152 townhome units and 252 multi-family units . The variety of housing types being developed in Lakeville is consistent with the Envision Lakeville goal of providing housing choices for “ people of all ages and stages of life .”
