Leaves Our picturesque community transforms with beautiful fall foliage every year . Though stunning , fall foliage can quickly become a hinderance to those traversing the community and a nuisance maintenance
22 LakeTalk October 2023 issue . While the community is beautiful and bountiful with trees and other plants , it is important to trim excessive limbs and branches , especially those overhanging the road to provide a clear route for passing vehicles ( including buses ). Additionally , it is important for Members to address leaf removal on their properties to ensure drainage and stormwater management systems operate properly in an inclement weather event .
It is a common misconception that the Association removes leaves from private property . While the Association maintains common areas , it will not remove leaves from a Member ’ s private property . Members are responsible for managing the culverts on their properties , including removing any accumulation of leaves or debris , regardless of their origin ( i . e ., neighbor ’ s yard ). Doing so allows water to properly drain
through the community ’ s drainage system as designed .
As long as culverts remain clear , there are several ways Members can clear leaves from their property . Members can mow them , pile them in flower beds to nourish the soil and suppress weeds , compost them , or utilize yard waste pickup on Wednesdays ( Note : The final yard waste pickup is on December 13th ).
Remember , only properly presented yard waste placed at the curb by 6am will be collected ( i . e ., in a disposable paper “ lawn bag ”). Sticks and limbs must be bundled , and bundles may not be larger than 3 x 3 feet in size . The trash contractor will not pick up yard waste in plastic bags , sod , or dirt .
Note : Audubon Condos and Linganore Garden Condos yard waste questions should be directed to Clagett Management ( 301-663- 6009 ).
