From The Preseident
Lakes Area Cruisers Rod Run
Number 19 is now history. But,
boy did we ever have a great
show and a lot of fun! We got to
see many old friends that we
probably have not seen in a year.
This event has come to be almost
like a homecoming and is looked
forward to by almost everyone.
Our club members are already
talking about plans for our 20th
Annual Rod Run. Even though we
worked ourselves down to a nub
at the show, we still had a very
good time and enjoyed the
fellowship of seeing old friends
and making many new ones.
Many of the ones who attended
this show for the first time told us
that this was the best show that
they every attended and that they
would be back next year!
We had many comments that the
Sub-Way sandwiches on Friday
night were very good and that the
meal on Saturday catered by
Smitty’s Smoke House was
excellent. The compliments about
the desserts were endless and
the desserts were enjoyed by all.
Many thanks to everyone who
provided the desserts,
especially my wife of 60 years,
Virginia Weaver, who baked about
20 pies. Mere words can not
express the gratitude we feel for
all the hard work put fourth by
the members of the Lakes Area
Cruisers and the help we received
from other clubs in helping with
the games again this year.
Club member, Bill Phillips brought
us a new game this year, the
miniature car races that were a
big hit.
Club Secretary, Helen Williams
does an outstanding job handling
registration and all other financial
matters.
Club member, Bob Mitchell did his
usual excellent job of handling all
the awards. Club member, Lindel
Smith handled the gates and he
and his wife, Euleen counted the
ballots.
Many of the ladies drove their
van and cars to take the ladies
on shopping tours and rumor has
it that the shoppers were very
generous and contributed to the
economy of Jasper! The sale of
50/50 tickets was outstanding
and could not have taken place
without the help of Club Member,
Joe Miller, who worked tirelessly in
helping me with this effort.
We thank everyone who
participated in the auction for
their very generous participation.
No car show can be successful
without sponsors, and we are very
fortunate to have a very large
number of outstanding sponsors,
many of whom have been spon-
sors from the very beginning.
We have many major sponsors.
Weave Brothers and Weaver
Motors, O’Reilly’s Auto Parts, X15
Beverage Barn, Jay Durham of
Wood-Mizer Saw Mill, and the City
of Japer.
There is no way that I can thank
all of the members of the Lakes
Area Cruisers enough for all of
their hard work, especially Morgan
Woolems, Bob Mitchell, Virginia
Weaver, Helen Williams and
everyone else who helped.
A special thanks to all those who
brought their beautiful cars to this
show and to O’Reilly’s for bringing
their trailer again this year and
giving away goodies all during the
show. The President’s Award was
given to Ed & Beulah Warner for
their faithful attendance and this
year for bringing their Duel Cab
Studebaker pickup.
We really appreciate all of the
spectators who came by and
looked at all of the beautiful
vehicles on display.
Most of you know that the
proceeds of this show are
donated to deserving charities.
Last year we donated a total of
over $12,000.00. We hope to
do this again this year.
Sincerely,
Onnie Weaver
