really thought the preacher wasn’t on
his game and it was his fault. I knew
a preacher once that actually helped
me see the light. I began to notice, the
more I drew closer to the word, that
the only time I cried in church was
when he would pull, what I like to call,
“The Graveyard Card”. Yep, if he wasn’t
getting the emotional response from
his crowd, he would start talking about
mama and ‘em over across the road in
the graveyard. Immediately, tears began
to flow from every eye in the sanctuary.
Then everyone was sad and they felt
as though they just had an encounter
with the Lord. Go back and read that
last sentence. THEY FELT! Sure you
are going to feel something when you
talk about a lost loved one. Does that
mean you were filled with the presence
of God? Was it only an emotion?
When you develop a personal
relationship with the Lord you begin
to recognize the difference in a “filling”
rather than a “feeling”. Our feelings
make us do stupid crazy things. You
know, like eat an entire package of
Double Stuffed Oreos with a ½ gallon
of whole milk. I mean, I wouldn’t
know anything about that…..I’m just
saying. Anyway, our feelings are one
thing, but, a FILLING is another.
When you pray in your secret place,
that is the moment where the beauty
of His Majesty unfolds. Sometimes I’ve
seen others struggle to pray because
they are looking to use big words, long
sentences and an impressive tone in
their voice. (I’m not bashing anyone….
don’t come at me….I’m just saying.)
What I don’t believe most people
realize, is that to just bring a heart
before the Lord with an honest, real,
and raw approach ls all that it takes.
After all, Galatians 1:10 says “Am I
now trying to win the approval of
human beings, or of God…?” The way
the words sound is not of importance
to the King. He wants you. All of
you. The good. The bad. The ugly.
I think people sometimes feel they
can’t ask the Lord for things. Anything
really. He is not a magic lamp and you
aren’t going to get a pop up Gennie to
grant you wishes, but He is a Father
that cares about every single ounce
of your life. Every detail matters to
Him. ALL OF IT. I laugh sometimes
when I pray, because it starts out like
this, “Lord, you told me to come to
you with everything….so here we
go…” and I proceed to tell him some
of the most ridiculous things. One
time, I asked Him to help me pray for
someone I didn’t even like and I told
Him I didn’t like them and I told Him
