with them when they die…holding
their hand so they are not alone.
Nurses working on COVID
floors and units experience all
levels of emotions daily:
• Happy and elated when they
get to discharge a patient to
go home (and many do)
• Sad and worry when they
have to transfer a patient to
the Intensive Care Unit
• Grief when someone they
have been taking care of
for days or weeks dies
When asked how they cope with
all the different emotions? They said
“you have to put your emotions aside
because there are other patients waiting
for you…..You cry when you are at
home…. You have to be strong for your
co-workers and patients.” One nurse
said her faith in God keeps her going.
These heroes in our community
keep coming back to take care of
our neighbors, friends and family.
They are very appreciative of the
thoughts and prayers the community
is sending them. Their long days are
exhausting and the hot balanced
meals they get from the community
is sometimes the best meal of the
day. All of those interviewed wanted
to express their gratitude for you.
All healthcare workers are special
people…truly heroes… putting
their lives at risk everyday!
