Medical Heroes Meet New
Foes in Face of COVID-19
COVID-19 is now a household word - it’s talked
about in the news, tv programs, and on social media.
There are song parodies, jokes, and cartoons: all things
to keep us entertained during our social distancing.
To most of us, it’s just something to read about. But
for some, it’s an everyday reality for those taking care
of our neighbors, friends and family. They are our
healthcare workers, especially nurses. They are the ones
in direct contact with known corona virus patients.
They are our brave heroes. This story is about them…
their everyday thoughts, fears, and sobering moments.
16 LAKE WEDOWEE LIFE
We see signs everywhere saying “Heroes Work Here”
or “Heroes At Work”, but to them it’s just what they do
- it’s part of their job. If you ask a nurse, why do you do
what you do? You get different answers, such as “helping
someone less fortunate” or “helping the community.”
But to all of them, their answer is “It’s my calling.”
The definition of a hero is “selfless, a genuinely
good person, and someone gets the undivided
attention of all of us and causes change. Someone
willing to risk their own life to save another.”
Many don’t see themselves as heroes, but they truly are.
