what makes a wedding dance unique?
Ah… the wedding is over, and now it’s time for the
reception! You’re sipping champagne, visiting with
Uncle Ralph and Aunt Mary when you hear it…
the opening strains of The Chicken Dance, the
Hokey Pokey or the Limbo…and you remember
just
why
you

wedding
dances.
they play and how they play, do the same with the mobile
service. Find out where they are performing, or ask for references
and then check them out. If you’re looking for a unique
experience for your guests, an unengaging DJ who’s on his/her
phone all night isn’t going to do it.
Perhaps this isn’t you, but for many people the
Tried-and-True has become Tired-and-Done!
• Don’t forget the kids…blow-up guitars and other props can
provide them with a fun distraction. You and your guests get
some great photo ops! It’s a win-win.
So, what makes a wedding dance unique?
You and your spouse’s tastes are what makes it unique.
Would you like to take your reception and wedding
dance to the next level?
• Another modern idea is to create a photo booth for your
guests (and you!) to take pictures with fun props. There are
services which provide some over the top experiences, or you
can create your own.
Here are just a few ideas to get you going:
• Try a new twist on a traditional idea: Play BINGO for the
garter. Raffle off the Bouquet rather than tossing it over the
bride’s head (and potentially into a ceiling fan!).
• Hire a live band! True, they can’t play everything
on your iTunes playlist, but the interaction with the
crowd, the energy of the band, and the opportunity for
Uncle Harold to sing that old song he used to sing are
priceless! Most bands will play your playlist to fill in
while the band takes a short break as well. By using
that option, you can keep the energy going and give
some time to that genre of music that your favorite
band might not perform.
• Do you or your new spouse have a talent? Show it
off! Your friends and family are there to celebrate you
and will be a generous audience. It’s a better memory
to take away than “they played Roll Out the Barrel at
this dance too!”
• Lately, the idea of bride/groom/parents/attendants
performing a choreographed dance has become a hit.
This hasn’t been Tired-and-Done yet, so if you have
the energy and coordination, go for it! Again, this
will make for a fantastic memory for years to come.
Oftentimes your wedding entertainers will have
connections to instructors that can make your dance
sizzle!
• Something different: hire a dance instructor from a local
studio to teach you and your guests some simple dance moves.
Switch partners often…this will give folks another opportunity
to visit and have fun at the same time.
•
One way to include your older guests is to invite them
to teach you some of their favorite dance moves. If you
