Activity Highlights
LSHCF Back to School Spellin g Bee
On Friday, Aug. 21, nine ladies participated in
the LSHCF Spelling Bee. To warm up, we had a
few practice rounds with no eliminations. For fun,
Blanche Cowan spelled her words backwards,
made a silly face and then spelled each word
correctly. Each participant received a certificate
for participating. Zula Oldham, received a
medal and a small trophy for her1st place finish.
Faye McKeever took 2nd place while Alba
Campbell placed 3rd.
Above: Blanche Cowan listened as Cheryl Ahlers read each word, used it in a sentence, then repeated
the word.
Below: List of Participants (Front Row, L to R)Juanita Yaw, Mary John Cowan, Zula Oldham and Rosa
Gannaway (Back Row, L to R) Faye McKeever, Alba Campbell, Blanche Cowan, Susie Smith and
Annav Gabriel. Zula Oldham, a retired school teacher from the Stockton area, will be celebrating
her 100th birthday on December 2! Great job everyone, we are so proud of you all.
