Klapprich Park sees Improvements

Nestled near the iconic water tower at 340 Park St. E., Klapprich Park serves as Wayzata’ s premier year-round community destination.
This versatile space transforms with the Minnesota seasons, offering a traditional playground and picnic areas for summer outings.
When the temperature drops, the park becomes a winter wonderland featuring an ice hockey rink, skating pond and a warming house along with with an outdoor fireplace and concessions. The hockey rink serves as a dedicated off-leash dog park during the summer months.
After nine years of planning, the nature-themed playground at Klapprich Park became a reality in 2025. The project’ s most visible milestone occurred Oct. 8, when a 200-foot crane installed the park’ s new 26-foot playground tower. Constructed by Midwest Playscapes, the upgrades included the new playground, enhanced sidewalks and walking loops, improved grading and drainage, renovations to the warming house, parking and crossing improvements, and a new 40-foot slide with stairs. The playground itself also features climbing domes, swings and other play elements.
City officials implemented several design changes in 2025 to optimize the layout. Most notably, the slide and stair access were moved from the east side of the park, near the Bell courts, to the west side. Accessible from Park Street, this adjustment was made to address cost, topography and the need to preserve mature trees.
On Jan. 17, 2026, the community celebrated the reopening of the upgraded warming house and ice rink. As 2025 concluded, city officials indicated that additional improvements are planned for 2026.
