Sailing is a lifelong sport the entire family can enjoy . When a young person gains control of their own vessel in the waters of Lake Michigan , they gain an exciting confidence that will only grow . All of our instructors are U . S . Sailing certified and trained in safety and instruction . LITTLE LUFFERS ( 5-7Y ) Little Luffers is all about gaining an affinity and confidence for being on the water . There are usually two sailors in each pram , giving them a chance to meet new friends and share the fun ! Sailors in this program focus on how much fun sailing can be and develop a good base for Pram 1 .

PRAM 1 ( 8-12Y ) Pram 1 is the foundation of the learn-to-sail program . Our beginner sailors will use our fleet of Vanguard Prams ( the training version of the international optimist dinghy ) to learn the basics ( points of sail , nomenclature , departure , docking ) all while gaining confidence in the boat . This class has a low instructor to student ratio to maximize the attention each sailor receives . Expect to take this course at least twice before moving on to Pram 2 .
