OPTI RACE TEAM ( 10-15Y ) Lake Forest Sailing ' s Optimist Race Team is known for hard work and great success . Joining the race team is a commitment of time and effort . Parent involvement is a must as the team travels frequently to regattas around the Midwest . The focus of the race team is all aspects of small boat racing and training for top-level regional , national , and international events . On-shore components of boat maintenance , rules , tactics , and fitness will be a large part of the race team this summer .

420 SAILING ( 14-18Y ) 420 Sailing combines our previous 420 1 & 420 Pipeline summer courses . The 420 is a double handed boat and we require sailors to be 14 years old and big enough to handle to 420 . Sailors who are too young or small for the 420 will not be able to handle the boat properly or safely . If you are not sure if your sailor is big enough to enjoy their time in the 420 please call the sailing office . Newer sailors will begin as the crew and more experienced sailors will begin as skipper . The goal of this program is to get kids excited and experienced enough to join the scholastic race teams in the Fall & Spring and to become competent double handed sailors .
